I've just been reading Sensei's Aim Guide in the articles section.
In the article he says "Make sure to set your netspeed to a value that your connection can support." 8O
Can someone tell me... wtf is Netspeed, & how do you set it up?
Is it anything to do with my internet connection speed?
I connect using a 1Mb ADSL & my connection type in UT is set up as DSL. Does UT automatically detect my ADSL speed? If not how do I configure this?
Questions questions questions!!!
Anybody know?
anyone?

Hi Stinky,
Netspeed is a very difficult thing... discussed already in several posts in the old forum.
e.g. http://www.truff.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2837&highlight=netspeed
or in the site, Abnormal posted: http://www.clanvikings.org/tnse/utstuff.html
for most PC's, video-cards and DSL-connections the UT-settings are OK,
but under some circumstances you may have to adjust them ....
With my old ISP I had to reduce the netspeed, elsewhere I couldn't play (games were often *very* laggy )

You can tweak it, but most people seem to stick with the default value of 10,000 if they have adsl or cable.
Lower and it's choppy (but sometimes good for a laggy server, or a server a long way away - can reduce packet loss). Higher is ok, but can invoke more lag.
If modem, ~2800, isdn - 4000 - 5000. Bad adsl/cable = 8000. Or whatever flaots your boat...
Some servers have min values that restrict the lowest you can go, and these generally suck for dialup users.

Well im from the uk but always playing on Dutch servers for some reason? I read an article on it and changed mine to 8000(im on a 1meg btw) whilst my other ukers stayed on 10000 and there was not much difference tbh we all have same isp + 1meg so i wouldnt worry about it cause i doubt you'd be able to tell any difference?

Probably not. I've keybinds to switch from 5000 to 10000 as I'm playing as sometimes dropping netspeed helps on a laggy server (especially those where you're having a problem damaging the enemy because your outbound packets are being dropped - only half your minigun rounds work, for example, or a rocket in the face of an enemy fails to damage them)

Stinky,
The DSL/Cable option will set your netspeed to 10,000. This should be just fine. You can see your current netspeed by pressing F6 in the game. It can be adjusted by bringing up the console and typing NETSPED X, where X is the new netspeed you desire. I remember reading somewhere you should not have a netspeed lower than your fps x 64 rounded up to the nearest 100. I am not sure what my current netspeed is, but when I has my fps locked at 85 I used to play with a netspeed of 5500.
