what do people think of this controversial map. there have been many calls of spawn killing and indeed it is quite easy. have people had bad experiences? should it be kept on the server when the problems happen every time?
my experience was kicked for spawn killing, many know me and know i wouldn't do this but i was finding it hard:
they'd taken our flag and it had been dropped in thier base (next to where thier flag would be). what are you supposed to do in this situation? if people picked up the flag i killed them with an exploding bullet (to be found on the map). now people who see the enemies flag on the floor go to pick it up... what are you supposed to do let them keep your flag? and then when they run into thier building can you not shoot them? to make this clear if someone spawned near to the flag but ran the other direction i left them well alone, as i know the rules. i have had people spawn killing me when i'm not near any flags which is silly but when i get godlike for protecting my flag i dunno what to do :?

I like this map, but I also hate this map for 'real' (no flag, no clinching moment, just because I spawned) Spawn Killing. I have fallen victim of this before. As I know others on the map have.
I made these two ideas recently (amended)
It could either
1) Be removed
2) Be amended (perhaps a surronding wall in front of the base or and angled roof with jump boots so people can get the weapons, but need to get the boots or they will fall to their death)
I know Number 2 is difficult but we have a few good map builders on Truffs who may be up for this, and if checked for errors and okayed it be put forward for the C'n'G server.
I don't really want to see the map taken from the server, but if the Spawn Killing continues I would want it to.

yeah i think a wall would be good, it'd also maybe mean you couldn't fly in grab flag and fly off without getting out of your plane. gd thinking villordsutch

Stick Truff on it as a logo (like the Truff title on the flags).

Truff watched me playing on this map the other night and was concerned that i was spawnkilling. I was trying to wait until people moved but was also trying to stop them from getting into a fighter and taking off which is hard.
You can also kill people in the tower without actually being able to see them.
i dont mind if someone wants to change this map by adding a wall in front of the base, should be quite easy to do.

heh well if truff was concerned about venom spawnkilling well... something really does need to be done!! maybe a glass wall with concrete pillars?

A pretty frosted glass wall with the Truff logo on it sounds great, remebering to make sure it hides the tower windows. Thinking about it, it would be easier to glass the windows out, stick mirrors on the inside to freak out the players :twisted: .
I thought earlier to make sure the wall was far enough away from the spawn island, but there is no need as you can turn around before you take flight.

I would also like to see the map altered...perhaps a lovely little garden in front of the new wall....I'm partial to daffodils and tulips, but I can live with something else.

With that cold (and the permafrost) bugger all would grow. You want a shurbery or a Prickle bush.

i was gonna say leave the windows in the tower alone cos i like teleporting out of them. but then if there is a relatively safe passage out at the bottom then i could live with it

:( I too have fallen victim to the 'spawn killers' etc. on this map. In fact I was 1 of the victims once when Anoobis, SSC Lucifer and another player were trying to stop us picking up the flag which was dropped in our base next to the portal. Obviously they wanted to stop us getting it but equally obviously we weren't just going to let them score again by not picking it up.
Before at least 2 of them were kicked by 'Jasper' one of them had a score over 100 and the other 2 weren't far behind. The highest scorer on our team was on 6! Obviously everyone on our team was more than a little agrieved, in fact some left the game. Something has to be done, another suggestion, (by Scrappy), in the old forum to change to normal sniper ammo would help too.
It's a fun map when played in a certain way, but does lend itself to serious abuse. :(

Never thought about the exploding bullets fragging folks you can't see in the tower.
What about making the two tall towers impossible to stand on?

couldn't, you can always use the jets to get up there.
and batty yeah that was me top on erm 121 when i was stopped - i was feeling guilty but i didn't know what to do, let you take my flag or kill those who picked it up? very sorry.
i think the exploding bullets should be left but maybe a conservatory style thing be built out the front? i'll try n find a pic of what i'm thinking of.

Thanks for the apology Anoobis :D . I like that map BUT like I said it lends itself to serious abuse. If everyone played it as a CTF game and not DM it would be good but people get carried away when they're scoring loads of frags so ....
I look forward to seeing you again on the servers, preferably through the sniper rifle scope though :twisted:.

Ooooh just saw the pic you added - looks like a goood idea: I'd like to have those big robot shootey things like UT2004! (That's the technical term for them I believe). :roll:

I like the idea of the glass front.

Perhaps if we block the two windows facing the towers and build the glass wall in front of the Re-Spawn Island.

This is my drawn up plan for the amendment for Artic Jet to stop the spawn killing
Glass wall
Sits at the front of the island just wider than the island, this way planes can still take off. If possible to have the Truff logo on the glass window (and if really possible to make the glass frosted).
Windows
The two windows visable from the high rise buildings to stop the spawn killing, this way people can still Trans out of the tower to the roof.
Shrubbery
This isn't that important but would look nice in front of the glass wall.

heres my idea. covering the whole flag area with a glass dome. to stop the spawn killers and make it a bit more interesting getting the flag out of the base. a the moment its too easy to fly though in a jet and pick it up.
the green lines are big holes to get out of the dome, out the sides (4-5 holes and one onto the lower roof. and a hole in the roof to drop down onto the flag.
the grey dots are for a flat glass front with the truffs logo. i think i might learn to map and show what i mean that way. do we need more peoples thoughts?

Just to let you know that due to the large amount of daily complaints relating to Spawn Killing on these maps they have been removed from the servers.

I know it is a shame due to the work and imagination we have put into these, but having to wait for changes and then the amount of play testing for the maps the numbers of complaints would continue to grow day by day.
This would then upset the community spirit and the fair play that the Truff members and Admins try hard to keep.
I hope you can see, as I can, the reason behind this move.
Don't let this stop you map making ideas from growing keep at them, you will see there is a Truff Development forum specifically for these sort of seeds we have planted in this two topics.
I for one will be joining you in that forum...I have the bug. :twisted: .
